In this project Pixelhero joined forces with Tunnelvision to create an interactive 3D video game for the Hunting Museum in Riihimäki, Finland. The museum was aiming to find a way to educate its visitors on the “rules of hunting” in an interesting and non-brutal way. As a solution for the demand Tunnelvision and Pixelhero created a 3D installation, where visitors can use a slightly modified rifle (donation by Saku, the Finnish military manufacturer) to hunt reindeers.
An impressive aspect of the project is also that despite its pioneering nature, the team was able to carry out the project with a moderate budget. In the end, the museum received a long-lasting attraction to add to its collections.
Unity 3D game engine was utilized for the museum installation.
Pixelhero created custom game characters and animations for the installation, and Tunnelvision ran the coordinates of the weapon’s laser through a custom-programmed Application Programming Interface which were then send to Unity 3D game engine. The innovative 3D characters that the Pixelhero team created were the first to use quadruplet animation systems in the Unity 3D, which did not officially support this feature at the time of this project. In the end, the museum received a long-lasting attraction to add to its collections.
